Close up Building Map

Recently I was hired on to be an Assistant Designer at the Spark building at Washington State University. I am enjoying learning about 3D printing, laser cutting, and using a ShopBot. In the short time I have been here I exercised my creativity and problem solving skills every day.

Last month my co-worker and I designed these building maps. I created the first floor while my co-worker tackled the ground floor. We used Adobe Illustrator to create perfect outlines of the building's floor plans. Sending them off the be printed on laminated vinyl with adhesive backs. They were hung up last week and will remain up until too weathered. The maps indicate the open or collaborative spaces for students on each floor. They also display the building hours of operation.

From this project I gained a deeper insight on scale printing. I was shown how one crooked line might be small or unnoticeable in Illustrator but will show up clear as day when printed. Double checking and peer checking any work should be routine when finalizing any project. Thankfully all errors were caught and the prints on both floors are flawless.
