Travel Tips

This is a running list of travel tips. I just add them as I find them

- Take a coat and blanket on a train. They get cold!
- If it won't greatly enhance your experience don't bring it!
- When traveling overseas or long flights always pack an extra change of clothes in your carry on in case your luggage gets lost.
- Don't buy name brand stuff unless you want it stolen. I am talking bags, small purse, even sunglass cases. Use that stuff at home but traveling everything has the potential to be lost or stolen.
- Don't be ashamed of small pillows or neck pillows. If it makes you a comfortable and happy then do it.
- ALWAYS take the photo, if you think "oh I should take a photo" DO IT right then. *Okay maybe don't do this if you're in a sketchy area, read the room a bit. There have been places where I hope people think I am a local. In that place, I take mental photos.

- When you buy a souvenir make sure it is local. There are a ton of shops that are traps for tourists. They are overpriced and generic. If you want something special ask a local where would be the place to go. Your money, time, and experience will be spent more wisely getting something actually made in that country.

- Carry elastic clothes hanger. If you're going to the beach you will want it to dry your towel and knock the sand out of it. If you're going to Europe a lot of places do not have dryers (air dry only).

- Buy the nice battery pack. Having a dead phone is like losing your train ticket, map, credit cards, and life. Buy a nice one and carry it, it's an investment to never being lost (or to becoming unlost).

- Wine and beer are good any time of the day. ANY TIME.

- It is better to be early than late for flights, trains, and busses. Really, don't push your luck.

- Think about what you are buying. Yes, the heals are cute, on sale, and in your size, but how are you going to get them home? And can you walk on them all day? I'm not saying don't buy them, I'm just saying really think about it. Impulse buys lead to more baggage later (which can mean fees, big sad)
