Hallo!!

It is August 1st here in Switzerland which means it’s the Swiss National Day. Now if you are like me you ask What is that? Is that like fourth of July in Switzerland? My answer is kind of…ish. Many many hundreds of years ago on this day Switzerland was formed. To celebrate their confederation they light fireworks, eat good food and drink good drinks.

While driving and walking around the city I could see some stores, but mostly balcony’s have been decorated with Swiss flags. There are a few fireworks stand around the city as well. I can tell people are excited because the past few nights fireworks have been set off early. Which, to me was startling at first, we are pretty much in the city center. Fireworks, to me, are more of a country, rural, activity. But hey, whatever floats your boat Switzerland!

*accidentally on purpose falls asleep from a full day of sunshine*

The city did not put on a firework show this year, it wasn’t really necessary to be honest. The whole city, last night, light up with mother nature’s lighting and city's own firework shows. There was booms, pops, and crackles all night long, it was amazing to listen too. Every now and then there would be some right outside out own window! Fireworks could be seen deep into the city center and high up on the sides of the surrounding mountains. It was nothing like I had personally seen before.

So while I have a surface level understand of this day, it was amazing to experience. I did some reading and if you would like to do some digging of your own the links I liked are below:
